Eckhart Tolle is a German-born teacher on spiritual enlightenment and a best-selling author. His religion is not identified, but he familiar using teachings from Zen Buddhism, Sufism, Hinduism and the Bible. He graduated from Universities of London and did research Cambridge . As a young man, he moved from Spain to Britain,
and the age of 29, he says a profound inner transformation, after drifting and suffering from long bouts of depression. he began his journey of self-discovery and teaching. Over the time, he became well knowN as a spiritual teacher, building a following that began with small group and individuals as a counsellor and spiritual teacher in London and then spread worldwide. Since 1995 and today, he has lived in Vancouver, Canada, British Columbia with his partner, Kim Eng.
In 1999, he published "The Power of Now," which described belief system based on living in the present moment and not dwelling on the past or obsessing about the future. This philosophy calls for overcoming the "pain body": the destructive dominance of the mind and ego over the body. Mr. Tolle's book was a best seller, translated into 33 languages and touted by admires ranging from Oprah Winfrey, who called "The Power of Now" one of her favourite books to the actors Meg Ryan and Jim Carrey.
At the core of his teachings lies the transformation of conciousness- a spiritual awakening that he sees as the nest step in human evolution. An essential aspect of this awakening consists of transcending our ego-based state of conciousness. This, he says, is a prerequisite not only for personal happiness but also for the ending of violent conflict endemic on the earth.
A sought-after public speaker and teacher, Eckhart travels throughout the world. Most of the talks are given in English, but occasionally Eckhart speaks in German and Spanish. Many of his talks, intensives and retreats are published on CD and DVD.
